What the first month looks like.

Students learn to hold and tune the ukulele, strum with a steady down-up motion, and play their first chords, often C, A minor, F and G. Within a few lessons, most beginners can strum through a simple song from start to finish, which builds confidence fast.

Skills your student builds.

  • First chords and clean chord changes
  • Strumming patterns and steady rhythm
  • Reading tab

Renting or buying a ukulele.

Ukuleles are available to rent or purchase through Mr. Garrett. Soprano and concert sizes suit most young players; a concert ukulele gives a little more room on the fretboard for growing hands. Ask about options for your student before buying an instrument.

When to start ukulele lessons.

Ukulele is one of the friendliest first instruments. Its four nylon strings are easy on small fingers, and the instrument is light and simple to hold. That makes it a strong choice for younger students, and the chord shapes and strumming carry over to guitar later.

Younger students are considered individually; share your student’s age when you inquire.
